A little inspiration...

Ophthalmologists Scott and Kent Kirk of Kirk Eye Center have dedicated themselves to providing cataract surgery for patients who are not able to afford the procedure. For one day out of each year, the brothers along with their staff volunteer without pay to provide the life-changing surgery to patients who lack medical insurance or other means to pay for care. The project is known as Mission Cataract by the doctors, and it is one that aims to help underprivileged patients in the area. The necessary supplies for this day are donated by vendors.

Providing this service free of charge helps deliver the gift of sight to patients who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford the costs, which are an estimated $3,000 to $4,000 under normal circumstances. Kent Kirk often cites the importance of helping those in the United States who are in dire need of access to low-cost or free care. Kirk regularly travels with fellow ophthalmologists to assist underprivileged communities around the world. "There's all kinds of need in poor countries around the world, but there's also a need in the United States. We wanted to do it for people who fall through the cracks," Kirk said.
