  1. We recently had a call from an OD office with this quandry. (unfortunately) Patient buys new glasses, using insurance. Insurance company states that frame must be warranted for 1 full year.Insurance company buys frame company. Company does not renew contract with designer. Frame is discontinued. Frame breaks within warranty period but frame not available. Who is responsible? Isn't there some sort of stipulation that frame company needs to provide frames for duration of warranty? Should doctor be compensated by company for 1- all time spent by staff trying to find solution 2- (if) losing patient because of 3rd party breech of contract? If this was a simple and/ or inexpensive job the outcome may be less painful, however the job was a rimless frame with clip, and expensive lenses...pal, hi-index,ar. Naturally, the patient doesn't want different frame, nor does anybody want to be responsible for providing new lenses,ar coating etc. I never thought optical business would get so complicated, but with all the hands in the pot. By the way....the ins. and frame co. are blaming each other!!?? Any feedback would be appreciated.
